The Power of a Jewish Leader

Ruth was one of those characters in Jewish religion that I grew up not knowing enough about. It is only now, many years later, that I have come to appreciate her lessons and what she can offer us as Jewish modern women.

She brought the messianic dynasty to completion by continuing the royal lineage. Of course nor I or any of my friends and family come close to the level of spiritual purity Ruth exemplified in those days, but we are also living in different times where we often judge others by their appearance and how much we are worth monetarily.

Ruth's altruistic nature and level of spiritual purity in the Book of Ruth can give us the tools for dealing with our nation's struggles. We are in transition - gasoline prices are rising, we are in need of a strong leader, unemployment and poverty levels are fluctuating. Ruth's struggles were no different - she lived in a time of famine and upheaval but yet she represented kindness all the way through exhibited by her approach to life.

In times of our own personal and national struggles, we can each take something from the Book of Ruth. Each of us has the power to change. She let in what should be in spiritually and kept out what should stay out. Our personal struggles cloud our vision. Our little acts give us the power to change bringing us close to a time of eternal good. We are born with innate qualities but we do not always tap into them. Ruth teaches us that we can find that special someone to show us what is right and what is good in times of trouble.
